Bachelor Programme

The Bachelor programme consists of two semesters per academic year. The semesters consist of two educational units with blocks of ten weeks each. In addition, the programme has two educational lines: knowledge progression and professional orientation. They cover an entire academic year. See the diagram at the bottom of the page.

The training switches per block from large groups and self-directed learning to small group learning. Training of knowledge, skills and professional attitude takes place in different ways within the blocks. Various types of classes can be combined with self-directed learning by the use of the electronic learning environment and study books. The classes focus on the patient problem. Teachers provide assignments enabling students to learn in a certain context and offer them counselling during self-directed learning. Skills can be learned acquired and practiced in various practicals. The training in small groups focuses on practice and observation of professional attitude, which is a part of the testing assessment of skills. This involves the communication within a group, the application of scientific principles in the realisation of an assignment or the reflection on the session with the seriously ill patient.

In the framework of their professional orientation, the students learn to reflect on their future profession as a physician. This involves keeping their portfolios up to date. The knowledge progression line enables the students to follow the progress of their theoretical knowledge level by periodic written tests.
