Kiliian Kenjiro (Germany, 23)

Hey guys!

I am a third year medical student in the International Bachelor of Medicine Programme and I’d be happy to answer your questions about anything regarding studying Medicine in Groningen.

After secondary school (2008) I did my obligatory civil service in a hospital and then I discovered the great opportunity to study Medicine in Groningen and after the selection procedure I got in!

Now I am already in my second year and next to studying (which becomes a part of your life if you study medicine) I’m playing rugby, as I did for almost 9 years in Germany and I am following the extra-curricular programme called JSM (Junior Scientific Masterclass).

Most Importantly, I am extremely happy that I did the step towards Groningen and its truly an international programme. We are a small multi-cultural group of crazy people who love to study together and of course party together!

Groningen is the ideal student-city for this! Interested? Just ask any question and I will be glad to answer as good as possible!

Hey Guys!

Firstly, let me say thanks for taking your time to consider the IBMG programme as your first step to becoming a medical doctor!

Let me introduce myself. Born and raised in Australia (although half Dutch blood!), I grew up in Queensland where I finished my secondary school education in 2007. From there I took a ‘gap year’ where I lived and worked in Belgium, it was hear where I developed my lust for Europe. After returning in early 2009 I began my Bachelor of Engineering degree at the University of Queensland. It did not take long for me to realize that engineering was not the

right profession for me and I began falling in love with the idea of studying medicine. Whilst looking at potential universities around the world, my scope remained fixed on Europe, it was then when I found the University of Groningen’s IBMG program.

At a glance I was sold: Medicine, Europe, International... Perfect, not to mention it’s high global profile in research and first class education. I will say that even though the past year and a half has flown by, I am indeed deeply integrated into the study, the hospital and the pleasant student city of Groningen! Since starting my studies, I have been heavily involved in research with the aim of getting my name published and obtaining honors by the end the bachelor.

I am also heavily involved in general Medicine/Geneeskunde affairs such as organizing activities amongst our cohort, contributing to the optimization of the program as well as just having a great time in the International Bachelor Representatives
(JV in Dutch!).

Of course on the non-research side of things, I have also been involved in the top rowing clubs of Groningen which is a great way to get fit, have fun, not to mention a great way to learn Dutch!

I must echo the message of others when I say that the study and the people within it have truly become like a 2nd family and I am sure it will continue to be this this for cohorts of the upcoming years.

Good luck to everybody and hope to see you next year!

Hello prospective students!

I am a third year student in the International Bachelor of Medicine Programme. I am from Stockholm, Sweden. I studied nature science in high school and was lucky enough to also have a few medical classes and I fell in love with medicine. But in Sweden it is nearly impossible to get in to medical school no matter how much motivation you have. So, in my last year of high school I researched a lot of medical schools abroad and the one that really stood out from the rest was this programme.

Getting a high quality education and getting support from the faculty was really important to me and this school went above and beyond my expectations. The main goal here is to make you the best doctor you can possibly be. The possibilities are endless here whether you want to combine medicine and research or, like me, join a committee like the IFMSA( the international student association) which allows you to take the global health profile that is offered in the programme to the next level.

This programme and the people here have become like my second family and I feel right at home here. I am really happy and fortunate to have gotten in to this programme and I really hope to see you next year!
