Epidemiology training

The education of the department concerns the methodology of clinical research and includes epidemiology, medical statistics, MTA, decision analysis as well as bioinformatics. The education connects as much as possible to the research projects of the department.

Education is given in all training programs of the UMCG, particularly the curricular education medical science and dentistry, research master education (the new Research Master Epidemiology included) and post academic education. The chairman of the department is one of the two certified supervisors of epidemiology at Groningen University .

Student projects

Motivated Bachelors and Master students are always welcome to do a scientific period within one of our current research projects. Medical and dentistry can do a regular scientific period during their Master phase or participate in the JSM program (Junior Scientific Masterclass); we offer both Bachelors Honours, Master projects ('proefproject') as well as MD/PhD projects.

Students not from the UMCG are also welcome; we had students from the University of Groningen, Hanze University and other universities inside and ouside the Netherlands.

If you are interested, please contact Petra Schuls-Wetterauw: p.wetterauw@umcg.nl, tel. 050-3610739.

Registration as epidemiologist A/B

The Netherlands Epidemiological Society (Vereniging voor Epidemiologie, VvE) organizes the registration of epidemiologists in the Netherlands. Details are available at their website. The Department has well-defined trajectories for both “Epidemiologist A” and “Epidemiologist B” to obtain this registration, which can be found here (in Dutch).
