What you’ll teach at University College Groningen: Genetics, with emphasis on health-related issues
Rolf Sijmons has studied medicine at the University of Groningen. He trained in clinical genetics at the University Medical Center Groningen and has been a staff member at its department of Genetics since 1993. He obtained his PhD in 1999 in the field of cancer genetics and headed the familial cancer clinic as associate professor. In 2012 he was appointed full professor of medical translational genetics and now heads the department’s Development & Innovation section. He is on the editorial board of several scientific journals and active member of a range of collaborative groups, including the Human Variome Project.
Rolf Sijmons leads the Genetic department’s familial cancer research group and is involved in many national and international collaborative studies in the field of genetic predisposition to cancer. His other research topics include gene variant interpretation and the translation of new genetic techniques and knowledge into clinical practice.
