Esther studied medicine at the University of Groningen. During her studies she followed the so-called Junior Scientific Masterclass programme and was student tutor for medical students. After her graduation she worked as medical doctor in general internal medicine, oncology and genetics. She obtained her PhD at the department of Medical Oncology of the University Medical Centre Groningen for her thesis ‘Exploring predictors of chemotherapy efficacy and toxicity in testicular cancer’. Currently, she is researcher at the department of Genetics and follows a master’s programme in epidemiology at the VU University Medical Centre Amsterdam (planned graduation fall 2014).
