Programme fit

University College Groningen offers small-scale education, with a wide variety of courses in three major disciplines: Humanities, Sciences and Social Sciences. With support of a mentor, students choose and build their own interdisciplinary curriculum. Classes are small-scale, intensive and interactive. Additionally, there is a strong emphasis on building a student community and the students live together on our residential campus.

University College Groningen is a selective programme, which means that in addition to meeting our minimum entry requirements, we also look at your motivation to study at UCG and profile fit. University College Groningen aims to attract students who are highly motivated and have a diverse interest reaching further than just one discipline. These students are determined, academically strong, curious and passionate about retrieving new knowledge and they aspire to be intellectually and academically challenged. The UCG students are socially engaged and actively contribute to building a solid student community during their studies at UCG. Our students are excited about living together with peers from other cultures.

To sum up, the student that we are looking for can be described in the following five traits:

  • You want to discover the solution to real life problems
  • You are inquisitive and curious
  • You enjoy problem based, collaborative learning
  • You want to develop your skills in multidisciplinary research
  • You feel you are responsible for your own future

Students are recommended to highlight these traits to the UCG Board of Admissions in their motivation letter or video.
