European Funds for Research

The Transfer & Liaison Groep can assist you in the various stages of preparing EU proposals. From raising awareness (e.g. through the newsletter Post Europe, but also by organizing meetings), to formulating a projectconcept. TLG can also assist in writing proposals and calculate the budget. We can also help you with contract negotiations and the making of a Consortium Agreement and give you advice during the project e.g. on finances, reporting and audit certificates.

The most interesting european funds for research are:

  • European 7th Framework Programme

A very important source for funding is the European 7 th Framework Programme (FP7, in Dutch: Het Zevende KaderProgramma, KP7). For a period of 2007 – 2013 a budget of 50 Billion euro is available for Research and Technological Development. It is managed by the Directorate-General Research. Click here to find more information about FP7.

  • Life-long Learning Programme

Examples of programmes to support Education are Erasmus, Erasmus Mundus, Socrates, Leonardo. Click here to find out more.

  • Structural Funds

Structural Funds are set up to improve European infrastructure and cohesion. They consist mainly of two important programmes: European Regional Development Funds ( ERDF , in Dutch: Europees Fonds Regionale Ontwikkeling, EFRO) and European Social Fund (ESF).

ERDF is distributed, according to a certain key, among the memberstates of Europe, and allocated to certain regions. For our region, the Northern Netherlands, these funds are coupled with other sources (e.g. the Dutch programme Pieken in de Delta) and carried out in an integrated programme Koers Noord, managed by Samenwerkingsverband Noord Nederland (SNN). Click here for more information on Koers Noord.

ESF is also distributed to the memberstates and for The Netherlands managed by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment (Ministerie Sociale Zaken en Werkgelegenheid).

  • ESF

The European Science Foundation is set up to strengthen the European Research Network. For all disciplines you can apply for funds to set up a network. Click here to find out more

  • COST

Comparable to ESF the Community programme for Sience and Technology is set up for bottom-up proposals to set up networks and to explore new scientific areas. Click here to find out more.

  • MARIE CURIE

Marie Curie Fellowships provide European placements for pre and post-doctoral researchers, usually up to the age of 35, and for experienced researchers. Fellowships are available in any scientific discipline that contributes to the objectives of the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7). Applicants to this activity are young and experienced researchers and host organisations in academia and industry. There are several Marie Curie Actions: Individual Fellowships, Initial Traning Networks and Industry - Academia. New are the Career Reintegration grants. Here you'll find more information.
