R&D contracts

Objective: Securing new R&D contracts for the management of large data streams of major future R&D projects, such as ESO-ELT, ESA-Euclid and SKA.

Lead partner: Target Holding

Because of their collaboration, the partners in the Target consortium are in a good position to secure future contracts for the data flow management of very large international research projects.

The major infrastructure projects in science are being planned ahead with a time horizon of 20 – 30 years. Therefore, a number of projects can already be identified with some certainty (barring definitive financing) in which large-scale data flow management (on a scale that will provide Target with a challenge) will be an issue. These are a.o. the ELT project of the ESO (European Southern Observatory), ESA (European Space Agency)'s Euclid project, and the global collaboration project on the large radio telescope SKA (Square Kilometre Array).

The scientific partners in Target are already committed to these projects, which will cause the Target technology to play a major part in the choices that will be made with regard to the technology in those projects.

Due to the nature of the international projects , the final realization will have to be executed by commercial parties, which means that the position of the current partners will be a very good one. The budgets for the component data management of these initiatives run into hundreds of millions of Euros. For Target it is important that these partners are located in the northern region, so Target will profit maximally from the knowledge infrastructure that will then be in place.
