Grid computing and storage

The current (mostly scientific) Grid computing facilities will be fitted to offer similar facilities in the operational market  environment. The technique and procedures already exist. To fit in a market environment, further industrial research is necessary.

In addition to the development of software at a system level, the relationship with the hardware layer is an important research aspect.

Current Grid facilities

Target uses for its Grid computing the Grid cluster of CIT. The cluster is part of the European Grid infrastructure EGEE. Access to the national Grid infrastructure is regulated by the Big Grid steering commitee.

Compute Nodes

The cluster consists of 50 compute nodes, each with the following specifications:

  • Two dual-core 2.6 Ghz Opteron processors (4 cores in total)
  • 4 Gigabytes memory
  • 1 Terabyte disk storage

Storage

The Grid cluster is connected to 2 nodes with 24 Terabytes storage space each, with a total of over 48 Terabytes external hard disk space.
