PE courses for sworn trnaslators and interpreters
In order to maintain their certification, sworn translators must be able to prove that they are continually educating themselves. They can do this by collecting PE (Permanente Educatie; continuous education) points via various training activities.
Regulations concerning continuing education
When requesting extension of their registration in the Rbtv (Register beëdigde tolken en vertalers; register of sworn translators and interpreters), sworn translators and interpreters must demonstrate in writing that they have kept their professional level up to date in the five years preceding the request. To this end they must have collected at least 80 PE points from relevant training activities. One PE point corresponds to one demonstrable hour of training. A different rule applies to translators and interpreters who are on the Wbtv uitwijklijst (backup list): They must have gained at least 45 points in the three years preceding their registration extension.

PE courses at the University of Groningen Language Centre
The University of Groningen Language Centre currently offers three courses to which PE points have been allocated:
• Intercultural Competence (Wbtv code: 2011-0829): a one-day course for which you will be awarded 6 PE points
• Refresher course in Style (Dutch) (Wbtv code: 2011-0830): a brief one half-day workshop for which you will be awarded 2 PE points
• Refresher course in Spelling (Dutch) (Wbtv code: 2011-0831): a brief one half-day workshop for which you will be awarded 2 PE points
