English Courses - General Information

In the menu on the left you will find an overview of the English courses offered by the Language Centre. Please click on the items in the menu for more information.

Your level: office hour
It is important that you enroll in a course at the right level. Therefore we urge you to have your level tested during our open office hours (see below). If you choose not to do this (or if you ignore the advice given), and it appears you are not in the right course, we cannot accept responsibility. In such cases, we will try to place you in a course at the appropriate level, but this may not be possible. Should you then wish to stop following the course, our cancellation regulations apply.

The open office hour is usually on Fridays 11 a.m.-12 noon and 2-3 pm. Please report to the secretary's office of the Language Centre on the first floor of the Harmonie building (Oude Kijk in 't Jatstraat 26, Groningen), room 1315.0129. During school holidays and due to unforeseen circumstances, these times may change. We therefore recommend that you check with us before visiting (050- 3635802).

Extra office hours
Shortly before the start of the courses in February and September, extra office hours will be held between 5.30 and 7 p.m. The office will also be open for registration at these times. The extra office hours are: to be announced

No office hours
There are no office hours on Friday 25 May 2012 from 2-3 p.m.

Dialang
Click here to download the DIALANG test. This will give you a global indication of your English level in Common European Framework terms and some general advice on how to improve your English.

CEFR
The courses in the menu on the left are described in terms of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR), a reference framework developed by the Council of Europe that provides a basis for comparing language proficiency levels and interpreting test scores. Please click here for more information.

Certificate of participation
At the end of the course you will receive a certificate of participation if you have attended at least 75% of all classes.
