Sound advice about complex matters

Student counsellors (SSC)
|
The student counsellors have been appointed by the university to provide confidential counselling for students. They deal with matters that you have to arrange outside your degree programme. These may include:
-
more than 3 months of study delay
through illness, circumstances beyond your control or committee work.
You must first report study delay to your own study advisor. For more information, please go to
www.rug.nl/studievertraging.
-
legal matters
Student counsellors can inform you of your rights in all fields you will encounter as a student: admission, registration, deregistration, student grants, etc., and how these regulations affect each other. Not only individuals but also groups can apply for information. On request, student counsellors can hold information meetings for student and faculty societies, at introduction days, etc.
-
complaints, objections and appeals
Student counsellors fulfil a mediating role for students. Are you being treated unfairly or with contempt? Are your rights being abused? The student counsellors can advise your or mediate for you.
-
questions concerning study choice
Together with Study Support, the student counsellors can help you to quickly orient yourself towards another degree programme if you are unhappy with or unable to cope with your current one.
-
financial help
In certain circumstances, a private fund or the university Emergency Fund can help you out. The student counsellors can provide information and sometimes even a recommendation.
-
personal and confidential matters
The student counsellors treat every consultation as strictly confidential. If you need to discuss something outside the circle of your degree programme, for whatever reason, you can always go to one of the student counsellors. They have a lot of experience with all kinds of personal and study-related matters, and if necessary they can refer you on to a specialist.
