Childcare facilities

Information about childcare for students with children or who are expecting a child

You must arrange several things yourself if you want childcare assistance. First of all, you must choose a childcare organization and select an appropriate location. You may also be eligible for various allowances, which you must apply for yourself. International students are always advised to contact the International Service Desk for information about their specific situation.

You may be eligible for an allowance paid out by the department of Social Services and Employment (SOZAWE) of the municipality of Groningen if you meet the following requirements: you receive a student grant or loan, you are registered as a resident of the municipality and you are not employed.

If the municipality contributes towards the costs of childcare, you will also be eligible for a contribution in the form of a tax benefit. Apply for this Childcare Allowance with the Dutch Tax and Customs Administration .

You will have to pay a small percentage of the costs (usually around 3.5%) yourself.

Visit the SKSG Kinderopvang website ( http://www.sksgkinderopvang.nl ) for information about the childcare centres in the city of Groningen.

SKSG Kinderopvang can help you with all aspects of arranging childcare. Their Client Desk is open Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. You can visit in person at Heresingel 10, telephone (050) 3171390 or send an e-mail to klantenservice@sksg.nl.
