Emergency Fund

Emergency Fund

If you are unexpectedly faced with costs that you could not reasonably be expected to fund, the first port of call is the support services of the University (the student psychologists, student counsellors and Study Support). If they are unable to help, and if you have to use an external – more expensive – service, you may be eligible for assistance from the Emergency Fund. If you require special assistance (e.g. an adapted chair for your desk at home, or transport to/from lectures by taxi on a temporary basis), you can apply to the UWV, for example.

Application procedure

It is best to discuss the matter with a student counsellor first. Use the applicationform  [PDF]to make a request before you make the outlay in question.

In the case of unforeseen expenses, the Emergency Fund may consider your application after the event. Do not wait too long; the application must relate to a genuine emergency. The committee meets once every two months. Your application will be dealt with individually and you will receive a written notification.

Criteria

  1. You are not insured for the costs in question.
The Emergency Fund assumes that you have, at least, health insurance (including dental treatment), third-party insurance, contents insurance (also for fire) and travel insurance.
  2. The costs are not imputable and you are unable to pay them.
For example, the costs will not be reimbursed if you incurred them on the basis of incorrect information when you could have gained access to the correct information.
  3. The expenses cannot be recouped from other organizations.

Contribution

The Emergency Fund awards the money as a gift, a loan, or a combination of the two. The maximum award is € 1,250 per year. If the award is made as a gift, you will have to pay an ‘excess’ of up to € 125 per year.
