Page content: If extraordinary circumstances force you to make additional expenses, there are various options for financial aid, for example financial compensation for study delay due to illness, pregnancy, family circumstances or a performance disability. Other costs that may be reimbursed include those for psychotherapy, a diet or a dyslexia assessment test. Study delay? The University of Groningen provides additional financial support if you incur study delay due to extraordinary circumstances (for example, illness or a performance disability). For further information, go to www.rug.nl/studievertraging . Are you a committee member or a top athlete? Then you may be eligible for a committee or sports grant, if the committee of which you are a member is recognized by the University or if you participate at the national or international level in a sport recognized by NOC/NSF. Deregistration during the academic year?If you are a first-year student, encounter extraordinary circumstances or complete your degree, you can deregister before the end of the academic year. You are then entitled to reimbursement of the tuition fees for the months remaining in the academic year. If necessary, discuss this with one of the student counsellors of the Student Service Centre. You may also need to apply for social security with the Centrum voor Werk en Inkomen (CWI) in your place of residence. Extension of student grant and other DUO arrangementsIf your studies are delayed due to extraordinary circumstances, you can request DUO to extend your grant for one year. You can only do this once. In exceptional situations, you may also be eligible for an extension of your graduation period. If you think that you qualify for one of these options, contact one of the student counsellors. They are an important link in the application procedure. Wajong benefit for students with a performance disabilityIf you have a performance disability, you may be eligible for the Wajong benefit in addition to your student grant from DUO. However, the additional earnings regulations of DUO do apply to this benefit. Financial problems? If you are faced with a financial emergency (e.g. costs of psychotherapy, dyslexia assessment, a diet, dental care, damage by fire, death of a family member in a foreign country), the University Emergency Fund may be of assistance. Student mothersIf you combine studying and motherhood, you may be eligible for various benefits paid out by DUO in addition to your student grant from DUO. If you have a partner with a child, you are entitled to a partner allowance. If you have a child but do not have a partner, you are entitled to a single-parent allowance.
