Registration procedure for a Master's degree

The registration procedure below explains how you can use Studielink to enrol in a Master's degree programme at the University of Groningen. As of 1 September 2012 you will no longer be able to start a Master's degree programme until you have gained your Bachelor's degree - in Dutch this rule is called 'harde knip'.

Furthermore, the Cabinet has plans that include no basic grant in the Master’s phase and to limit the number of years students qualify for a Student Travel Card. Depending on when exactly the bill is submitted, the measures may already apply in academic year 2012-2013, even to current students.  Information about the plans and the consequences will be announced on the website , via the DUO app and on Twitter .

You can use the DUO calculator to check the consequences of the long-term student regulation and other government plans for your student finance. The results of the DUO calculator are estimates because some figures, such as the standard amounts for tuition fees and student grants for post-2013, are not yet known.

If you follow your Bachelor's degree at the University of Groningen and you want to do the follow-on Master's degree, go to step 2.

Step 1

Contact the faculty offering your chosen Master's degree and ask for a VTAE (Declaration of Admission to the Final Exams). As soon as you receive the VTAE, you can continue with step 2.

NB:
You must request a VTAE if you followed your Bachelor's degree at the University of Groningen or elsewhere in the Netherlands and you want to follow a Master's degree that is not a follow-on Master's degree.

Step 2

Go to www.rug.studielink.nl.

Would you first like more information about registration and enrolment via Studielink? Watch the demo (only in Dutch) on the Studielink website. This sets out the procedure step by step.
