Tuition fees

Depending on your personal situation, you pay the statutory tuition fees or the university tuition fees. Which category you are eligible for is depending on your nationality, your residence and if you have gained the same degree before.

You will qualify for statutory tuition fees if you satisfy the nationality and residence requirements and have not previously earned a similar degree.

As of 1 September 2012 you will have to pay a surcharge on top of your tuition fees (the 'long-term student rate') if you incur a study delay of more than a year and qualify for statutory tuition fees. This regulation applies to all students who are registered in higher education for academic year 2012-2013.

You will have to pay university tuition fees if you do not (or no longer) satisfy all the requirements for the statutory tuition fees at the moment of registration or during the academic year.

Transitional arrangement

Transitional regulations apply to a certain category of University of Groningen students who qualify for university tuition fees I (amount is identical to the statutory tuition fees) rather than the higher university tuition fees II even though they do not satisfy the requirements for university tuition fees I.
