RUGmail

Settings for your university mail

RUGmail general information

In 2009 the university replaced its e-mail software. The new software allows you to access your mail in two ways: via webmail or via a regular mail client such as Thunderbird or Outlook express.

Webmail can be accessed via https://webmail.rug.nl. Here too you just use your usual log-in details to gain access. You will find more detailed information about webmail and about how to change settings for regular clients in our manuals.

At the university:

From your university workstation (UWP), you can use a preconfigured client (currently Thunderbird and Outlook express are supported) to access your mail. You only have to enter your password manually. Of course you can also use webmail from your university workstation.

At home and on the road:

If you use Thunderbird, Outlook Express or wish to access your mail on a smartphone/PDA you have to change your settings as follows:

IMAP: imap.rug.nl  -> prt 993
SMTP: asmtp.rug.nl -> prt 465 (or use your provider's SMTP!) You will find more detailed information about how to change these settings in our manuals.

Information on how to set up your mobile device for the university mail can be found here

Please note: If you are both a student and an alumnus, then you will need to use your alumnus password in combination with your student number to log into your student mailbox.
