Security alerts

The University frequently receives signals of students and staff about e-mail messages in which they were urged to provide their user names and passwords. Never respond to such messages, which are attempts to steal identity information (so-called 'phishing scams').

Your account is personal
The University will always handle your account with great care. This means that IT support or members of the University's Servicedesk will never ask you - by e-mail or otherwise - to reveal your password and you will never be asked to provide your user name or other confidential information by e-mail.

Illegal
E-mail apparently sent by the University in which you are asked to provide details of your account or other information of a private nature is always an illegal attempt ('phishing') to lure you into providing personal information to third parties. Never reply to such e-mails.

Acceptable Use Policy
The University of Groningen has published an IT Acceptable Use Policy. In this policy you will find suggestions for the safe use of your University IT account as well as general conditions for using your account. The Acceptable Use Policy can be found on the University's website.
