IT security at the University of Groningen
Using the internet has many advantages but unfortunately also many negative side effects. One of these side effects is that computers may be hacked into and their security threatened as they are constantly or frequently connected to the internet. Often this threat is not realized by the legitimate user of the computer system.
As a response to the growing threats resulting from the continuous connection of computers to the internet, in October 2000 the computer centre of the University of Groningen decided to create the position of Security Manager.
It is the responsibility of the Security Manager to organize and initiate procedures and activities that should result in heightened awareness of security issues, and thus prevent abuse of the University's computer systems.
The current Security Manager is Dr Frank B. Brokken (+31 50 363 9281).
