Discussion/Listserv list


What is a (listserv) discussion list?

A discussion list aims at a group people with interest in a certain subject. Giving a forum where this subject can be discussed. This discussion happens using e-mail. To be able to take apart in a discussion, you must subcribe to the discussion list. When a subcriber sends a message to the discussion list the bulletin is spread to all the abonnees of that list. The recipients can then react to the list.

List administrator

The discussion list is managed by a list administrator. This administrator set a number of options to his own choice. The administrator can for example determine who may subribe or that someone automatically can subcribe, take a look at the messages before it will be send (see the requestform).  The messages send to the discussion list can be saved in een archive, and not subscribers can read these message through the web.

Request of a discussion list

All employees and students form the RUG kan request a discussion list. On condition that de list will be used for matters that concern with education, research or organisation.

You can choose between 2 kinds of mailinglist.

  • A mailinglist that you would amange your self (see the requestform). The CIT will send you a message when de discussion list is created. For the administrators of the list is a detailed manual online, see listserv link.
  • A list that should be filled automatically. For these request you have to contact the demandmanager from the faculty where you are employed or study. They will contact you when everything is ready.

The CIT offers de next services:

  • It makes the discussion list available and the concerning storage and backup.
  • It gives advice with the creating off the list by webpages.
