Function: teacher
Tasks: 
Suzan is currently teaching a year 1 project to bachelor students called 'Social Connection During lockdown', in which students investigate effects of the lockdown on mental and physical wellbeing of young people. They also organise a corona-proof social event at the end of term. She developed and manages this project (course). 

Organisation: Placelift    2019- current
Function: founder, consultant and researcher
Tasks: 
Placelift offers consultancy, research and development of co-creative solutions for spatial questions. Stakeholders including residents are actively involved in the process. Suzan collaborates with various consultants and companies for each assignment.  See also: www.placelift.nl


PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE

Organisation: Faculty of Spatial Sciences    2014 -2019
Function: PhD Candidate
Tasks: This PhD research investigates the changing distribution of local facilities in north-Netherlands, and the impact that closure of facilities can have on rural residents. Using mixed method research we investigate how facility decline can be experienced as a ‘loss’, while focussing on the process of dealing with change. Additional research projects include (but are not limited to) 'Accessible Facilities for Noardwest Fryslân' (2016) with FSP and Geodienst, and ‘Facility-Wise’ (2019) a serious game as participatory planning-method for local facilities, with Partoer.

Organisation: YOU urban design     2013 -2014
Function: founder
Tasks: Acquisition, project leading, conceptual development, developing serious urban games*, research, urban planning, consultancy and education.
Goal: YOU urban design is an office for innovative and interactive urban design, offering formats for participation and co-creation. YOU urban design works with a network of professionals from different fields in architecture, transformation, urban planning and social sciences.
Projects: June2013: a 2-day workshop ‘Boundaries in Public Space’ for students of the summerschool of Hochshule Anhalt (Bauhaus) Dessau. June-Nov2013: several competitions for urban development with different forms of collaboration.
In development: an empowerment training using serious gaming in Ghana in collaboration with Housing the Masses (Ghana) and the International Housing Institute (IHS) Rotterdam.

Organisation: Chief Government Architect (Atelier Rijksbouwmeester)      2011 - 2013
Function: junior advisor architecture and urban planning
Tasks: Studies for transformation and re-development of national buildings and sites. Tasks include making models, presentations, publications, planning and being part of project teams.
Projects: 1. urban and architectural study for national institutes (Dutch archive and Royal Library) at the Anna van Buerenplein The Hague. 2. Design research for the re-development of the Ministry of Foreign affairs in The Hague. Other projects include Royal Palaces and Ministries and all information regarding it is classified.

Organisation: Play the City      2012
Function: project leader
Tasks: Co-developing and organising ‘serious urban games’. Task include project planning, acquisition, developing new concepts and design for serious games.
Projects: Play Tirana (serious game) for the Tirana Architecture Week, Play Oosterwold Almere (serious game), Istanbulsana (interactive exhibition) for the International Design Biënnale Istanbul, Re-Play Noord (serious game) for the ‘Building the Shared City’ seminar in Amsterdam.

Organisation: National Architecture Institute (Nederlands Architectuur Instituut: NAi)     2006 - 2011
Function: Tour guide and employee department of education
Tasks: Offering workshops and guided tours for visitors of the museum and schools. I also co-developed two city tours, one in Amsterdam and one in Rotterdam. Projects: One of the workshops for children was a ‘city game’ in which they simulated an urban development of different neighbourhoods all playing a ‘part’.

Organisation: Flexus AWC     2007 - 2008
Function: Internship
Tasks: I took part in a research on how Dutch cities handle their historical inner cities and toke part in a book with guidelines for the review committee for buildings aesthetics of Zoetermeer.
