Overview

Dr. Killian J McCarthy teaches and researches in the economics of strategy at the  Rijksuniversiteit (University of) Groningen. His  research interests include: business and industrial organization, mergers and acquisitions, law and economics, commercial, contract and corporate law, money laundering and criminal activity

 

Education

Killian earned his Bachlors while a t  the National University of Ireland, gradua ting with a grade-one first-class honours, and a Double-Major in the subjects Economics and Law. He obtained a Masters (MSc) in Economics 'cum laude' while at the Universiteit Utrecht School of Economics (the Netherlands). And upon his graduating from the   'Multidisciplinary Economics Research Programme' -- during which  he took classes at the Technische Universiteit Delft, and the Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam (the Netherlands) -- he graduated with a joint Research Masters (MPhil) from the Tjallings Koopmans Research Institute (the Netherlands) and the Universität Wien (Vienna, Austria). Following this, K illian joined the Univeristy of Groingen, and under the supervision of  Prof. dr. W.A Dolfsma -- of the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen and the UNU-MERIT, Maastrict -- and Prof dr. U. Weitzel -- of Radbound University Nijmegen and the Max-Planck-Gesellschaft, Jena, Germany -- Killian graduated with a PhD in the economics of corporate strategy.

 

Work Experience

Killian is currently employed (Sept 2008 - date) as a full-time researcher at the Rijksuniversiteit Faculty of Economics & Business. In addition, he acts as a Consultant Economist for DMI Associates (Geneva, Switzerland), and as a Scientific Advisor to ISPIM (Manchester, UK).

Previously, Killian variously researched for: the Chairholder of the Tjallings Koopmans Research Institute (Oct 06 - Jan 08); the Chair and Chairholder of Law and Economics (Oct 06 - July 08); the Chair and Chairholder of Public Sector Economics (Jan 07 - Sept 07); and the Chair of Macroeconomics (July 07 - Jan 08) at the Universiteit Utrecht School of Economics.

In addition, Killian Chaired the PREBEM (the Netherlands Organisation for PhD Researchers in Business Economics and Management) Committee (June 2009- June 2010), and acted (May 2009- June 2010) as Vice-Chairman and Treasurer of GRASP (the Groningen Association for PhD Students).
