What is SPR?


SPR is the abbreviation for Sportvereniging Personeel Rijksuniversiteit/Hanzehogeschool [Sports Club for RUG and Hanze University Staff]. SPR was founded in 1950 (since 2003 staff of the Hanze University Groningen can also join) with the aim of promoting ‘fellowship, development and recreation in the widest sense of the word’ for the staff of the RUG and the Hanze University Groningen through sports. 

What does SPR have to offer?

In cooperation with the RUG & HG Sports Centre and ACLO, a wide range of sports activities are offered on an almost daily basis.

  • Specially scheduled SPR hours supported by Sports Centre coaches
  • Specially scheduled SPR courses supported by Sports Centre coaches
  • Free use of the tennis courts during hours scheduled for SPR
  • Members of the SPR Tennis Section can join in the tennis hours (lessons) scheduled for SPR and participate in the KNLTB tennis competition
  • Incidental use of various Sports Centre facilities (sports halls, outdoor sports fields, tennis and squash courts) after reservation at the Sports Centre desk
  • In addition, SPR regularly organizes bridge, tennis, volleyball, ‘klaverjassen’ (belote), football and futsal and fishing tournaments.
