People are dependent on the society they live in. It is by interacting with society that people achieve their aims and satisfy their needs. Sociology is about the exchange between an individual and their social circle. Or, put another way, about the influence an individual has on the collective and vice versa. Sociologists show how complex human society is and why simple solutions frequently have unintended side-effects as a consequence.
Students on the bachelor sociology course have developed their knowledge, research skills and interests. The various master courses can deepen and reinforce the knowledge and skills the students have acquired. Master students of Sociology in Groningen can choose one of four routes:
Policy and Consultancy,
Quantitative Policy Research, Criminality & Security and Sociology of Health Care, Welfare and Well-being. In addition they can choose the Master degree programme for teaching Social Sciences. Note that all of these Master degree programmes are taught in Dutch.
