ESMF2009 location

ESMF2009 will be held at Het Kasteel, Melkweg 1, 9718 EP Groningen (see map for location).

The easiest way to Groningen from Amsterdam Schiphol Airport is by train (journey time 2 hours 30 min). Direct trains from the airport to Groningen run at 19 minutes past every hour. Trains from Schiphol in the direction of Amersfoort departing 49 minutes after every hour can also bring you to Groningen in 2.5 hours, but then you need to change trains at Amersfoort station (to platform 3b). Timetables and ticket prices can be found here (enter "Schiphol" in the Journey Planner).

Please note that it is important to purchase a train ticket before you board the train, as it is not possible to buy tickets in the train and passengers travelling without a valid ticket will be fined. The trains are quite busy during the weekends, so if you plan to work on the train, a first-class ticket is recommended. Make sure that you board one of the train carriages marked with the destination "Groningen" on the sign beside the door, because the other part of the train goes to another city (Leeuwarden). On Sundays, the first train departs at 7.14 and the last train at 22.19. Be aware that there are no cafeteria services inside the train, so you will need to get any food or drinks in the main hall of Schiphol airport.

An alternative route to Groningen is flying to Bremen. There are 4 or 5 direct buses per day from Bremen airport to Groningen central station (journey time 3 hours): tickets are cheaper bought online in advance- see here for details.

The centre of Groningen is small and is generally easiest to get around by walking. Groningen central station is approximately 10-20 minutes walk or a short taxi ride from the hotels and Het Kasteel- see the map for locations.
