Bachelor’s degree programme

The first year (60 EC), also called the propaedeutic phase, has a compulsory programme of fundamental courses for all students, both in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering.

In 2006 the 'flexibele bachelor' started. The first semester is identical for the students Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Physics, Technical Physics, Mathematics and Astronomy.

The second year (60 EC) completes all fundamental courses compulsory for chemistry students. This set of courses is identical for Chemistry and Chemical Engineering up to and including period 2 (until Christmas). After this, the programmes begin to diverge partially.

In the third year of Chemistry (60 EC) the programme begins with an orientation on two specializations. After that, the students continue in one of these specializations, preparing for the final part of the third year, the research project. Furthermore, a course in one of the General Studies (Algemeen Vormende Vakken, AVV) has to be taken (5 EC) and another part of the studies is reserved for free courses.

The second and third year in Chemical Engineering (60 EC) is mostly filled with technological and mathematical subjects. Apart from that, there is limited space for free courses, including 5 EC for General Studies (AVV) at another faculty. The third year is concluded with an individual assessment of one’s ability in the shape of a report and verbal presentation.

Master’s degree programme

The Master programmes of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering take up the fourth and fifth year of the studies.
