History
The history of the Zernike Institute for Advanced Materials and its predecessor, the Materials Science Centre, has been a long one and is not very well documented.
The following sketch of the development of the Zernike Institute for Advanced Materials is based on documents collected by the institute's former Research Manager, N.J.I. Mars.
The history of the Zernike Institute for Advanced Materials can be divided into five phases:
1970-1987: Informal co-operation
1987-1993: Research Institute
1993-1999: Research Institute and School
1999-2006: National Research Center MSC plus
2007-now: Zernike Institute for Advanced Materials
