Stratingh seminar - Fred Wudl: Serendipity in the Quest for Organic Materials

In the process of trying to come up with a new molecule based on the electronic nature of diketopyrrolopyrrole (DPP), we encountered an unusual solid-state polymerization leading to the isolation and electron microscopy of a single molecular chain of a polymer. The same scaffold allowed us to discover an unusual effect of hydrogen bonding in the so-lid state. A derivative of the new bis(indanedionediol) (BIT), BIT(AcO)2 was fabricated into an OFET with reasonable mobility and on-off ratio.
