A substantial amount of research has already been carried out to illucidate the caries process; however a lot of questions remain as yet unanswered. The investigations have resulted in some succes, anyhow: caries prevalence is going down today. It is uncertain if the present low caries rate will continue into the future. Perhaps dental caries is only being delayed. Keeping theeth in the mounth for a longer period, will subject them to caries attacks and/or periodontal breakdown for the same extended period. Investigations into the details of the caries process are therefore still necessary. ... Zie: Summary and conclusions
