Research
Ocean Ecosystems is a highly dynamic Research Department, with a diverse group of researchers, technicians and master students. Our research focuses mainly on bottom-up control of marine phytoplankton productivity and community composition, algal applications, functional morphology of marine animals, (marine) biomimetics and climate change and impacts.
Our research themes:
- Theme I - Impact of global change on the marine organic carbon cycle
- Theme II - Fundamental science research for applications of micro- and macro-algae
- Theme III - Fluid Mechanics and Energetics of Locomotion and Feeding of Marine Animals
- Theme IV - Marine Biomimetics
- Theme V - Climate change and impacts
