KNAW grant for Jan van der Harst en Frank Gaenssmantel (CEASG)

Today the Centre for East Asian Studies Groningen (CEASG) received the delightful message that the China committee of KNAW and NWO has awarded us a grant of EUR 40,000 for a joint research project of the University of Groningen, Tsinghua University (Beijing) and Fudan University (Shanghai).

The project, entitled 'Economic, political and legal influences on China-EU diplomacy', will start on 1 April 2017 and last for two years.  The goal of this project is to analyse to what extent economic difficulties between China and the European Union translate into diplomatic tensions and, conversely, to what extent and how the latter are influenced by political dynamics and the legal context.

The project proposal was written by dr. Frank Gaenssmantel and Prof. dr. Jan van der Harst, both working at the department of International Organization and International Relations. The grant means a further boost for the existing cooperation within the Dutch Studies Centre Fudan-Groningen and the Tsinghua-Groningen Research Centre for China-EU relations.
