Terp Research Group

Centre of expertise for the archaeology of the northern-Netherlands terp landscape

The Terp Research Group is part of the Groningen Institute of Archaeology. Several experts on the archaeology of the terp region cooperate in this research group in order to reinforce and intensify research, and to enhance its visibility and accessibility to archaeologists as well as to a wider public.

Terp research in the provinces of Friesland and Groningen can play an important role in the quality of life and the development of the region. Current and relevant topics such as economic and social sustainability, identity, dealing with the landscape, climate change and sea level rise are important theme’s within terp research. The Terp Research Group aims to contribute to the scientific and social debate on these themes.

The Terp Research Group is directed by prof. dr. G.J. de Langen.
