About us Faculty of Science and Engineering Our Research GRIP Education

Organization

The Department of Pharmacy consists of ten research groups. The research is organised in the Groningen Research Institute of Pharmacy (GRIP).   All research institutes of the Faculty of Science and Engineering are embedded in the Graduate School of Science with respect to the PhD programmes and most of the master programmes (with the exception of the master professional Pharmacy).

The Department of Pharmacy also participates in the Graduate School of Medical Sciences of the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG) with respect to the PhD training programmes. The Graduate School of Medical Sciences comprises the former Groningen University Institute for Drug Exploration (GUIDE), Graduate School for Behavioral and Cognitive Neurosciences (BCN) an the Graduate School for Health Research (SHARE). All research groups of GRIP participate in the GUIDE, two groups also participate in SHARE and one in BCN. GRIP is headed by a scientific director, prof.dr. W.J. Quax.

Pharmaceutical research is multidisciplinary and has a central position in life sciences. It bridges medical sciences on the one side and chemistry, biology and physics on the other side. The interaction of pharmaceutical sciences in Groningen with medical sciences, through participation in the graduate schools GUIDE and BCN, offers excellent possibilities for cutting edge research. Next to local collaboration there is successful collaboration on a national and international level with other universities, industries and governmental bodies.
