The University of Groningen Abel Tasman Talent Program

Discovery and development of biomedical and pharmaceutical research talent

Do you belong to the top-10% of your class and have the ambition to pursue your career in (bio)medical or pharmaceutical research? Then you may want to apply to one of the talent grants of the Graduate School of Medical Sciences of the University of Groningen in The Netherland.

The /Abel Tasman Talent Program (ATTP)/ of the Graduate School of Medical Sciences (GS-MS) of the University of Groningen was developed early 2010 to give high-potential international students in (bio)medical or pharmaceutical sciences an opportunity to excel in the field of research of their choice.

Roughly two types of support can be distinguished:

  1. financial support for students and staff within the framework of a larger cooperation network of so-called “preferred partners” abroad, and
  2. support for exceptionally talented students from other institutions.

Preferred partners

ATTP was originally developed to strengthen our network of institutional partnerships. We strongly believe that only a truly international research environment will guarantee cutting-edge research. The Graduate School of Medical Sciences (sometimes referred to as the University Medical Center Groningen) currently focuses on international partners in Brazil, Chile, China, Colombia and Mexico. In June 2010, a large delegation of researchers visited Santiago and São Paulo where ATTP was introduced. The following partners are listed:

Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP)

São Paulo

Vera Salvadori

Universidade de São Paulo (USP)

São Paulo

Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) Porto Alegre Brazil

Universidad de Chile (UCH)

Dr. Ennio Vivaldi

Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC)

Dr. Klaus Puschel

Universidad Andrés Bello (UNAB) Santiago Chile Dr. Brigitte van Zundert

Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM)

Mexico City

Dr. Lilia Graue

With these institutions we set up a scheme of international student and staff exchange, joint programs, seminars and publications as well as the supervision of young research talent.

ATTP provides for the financial backup: from small research internships to full master’s or “sandwich” PhD programs. Of course we do not want to exclude talented students from other renowned universities: the list of preferred partners is non-exhaustive. So if you think this matches your profile we welcome you to apply to one of the scholarships below open to students from other institutions.
