Currently, research activities in the area of energy and sustainability at the University of Groningen are consolidated through three research centres:
- ESRIG: Energy and Sustainability Institute Groningen
- GCEL: Groningen Centre of Energy Law
- CEER: Centre for Energy Economics Research
The directors of these centres form the board of GESP. Other researchers, not otherwise affiliated with these centers are also pursuing or developing research in this area. Besides this growth within the university, close partners, such as the Hanze University of Applied Sciences and Energy Valley, are increasingly active in this area, and numerous new initiatives are being launched nearly every month. GESP is the coordinator of Energy Delta Gas Research (EDGaR). EDGaR is a Dutch research consortium of ten enterprises and research institutes that pursue scientific, applied and technological research on gas.
The volume and diversity of these activities creates the need for a central, well-informed and responsive interface such as GESP.
