Student from Costa Rica wins first MA Thesis Award East Asian Studies
Silvia Cortés has won the MA Thesis Award East Asian Studies 2015 with her master's thesis "China's Public Diplomacy in Latin America". She was the only student to qualify for the thesis award (based on the high grade) and to send in her thesis. She was awarded because of the the quality of her research and writing and especially the contribution towards the much under researched analysis of China's rise in relation to Latin America.
The MA Thesis Award for East Asian Studies is a joint initiative by the Centre for East Asian Studies Groningen (CEASG) and the Ubbo Emmius Fund. Read more on the award on the CEASG website.
Silvia Cortés studied International Relations in Groningen, and was supervised by dr. Hans Meijer for her thesis. Having won an EU scholarship she joined the MA East Asian Studies module History and Politics of East Asia by mistake. As she explains in her blog on winning the award the module quickly became her favorate course in Groningen.
