The aim of this summer school is to develop an understanding of how the Netherlands, as a medium-sized country, has been able to maintain high welfare levels in a region which is dominated by (regional) international powers such as Germany, France and the UK.

The lectures and seminars will take place over a 3-week period, which offers participants the unique possibility to learn about and travel within the Netherlands.

After an introduction on the political and historical characteristics of the Netherlands and Dutch leadership, this summer school will focus on themes such as international relations, the service economy , international trade and the role of export-oriented agriculture.

There will be excursions to The Hague (the capital of international justice), the Port of Rotterdam (the busiest container port in Europe) and the largest trading centre for plants and flowers in the world, Flora Holland.
