Application deadline SJTU Summer School: Chinese Politics and Governance

This Summer the Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) organizes a Summer School on Chinese Politics and Governance. Chinese Politics and Governance is a course project for overseas students participating in 2016 SJTU Summer School. It consists of two senior optional courses named Chinese Government and Politics and China and Global Governance. All of the instructors are from the School of International and Public Affairs at SJTU. Through diversified forms such as lectures, discussions and fieldwork, international students are introduced to the history and present of China’s culture, political development and governance from both international and domestic perspectives.

Highlights

During this 10-day global summer school, participants will attend lectures presented by specially invited distinguished experts and scholars. Other activities such as field studies, urban site visits or cultural tours will also be included to promote understanding of the practice of China’s politics and global governance.

Program fee

Free particpation for MA Eas Asian Studies students from the University of Groningen (including campus accommodation).

Instructors

Yang ZHONG, Changjiang Chair Professor and Zhiyuan Chair Professor, is the Dean of the school of International and Public Affairs at SJTU and tenured professor of political science at the University of Tennessee. His main research interests include local governance in China, political culture, and political participation. He is the author of two scholarly books: Local Government and Politics in China (M. E. Sharpe, 2003) and Political Culture and Participation in Rural China (Routledge Press, 2012). His articles have appeared on such journals as Journal of Politics, Comparative Political Studies, Political Research Quarterly, Asian Survey, Journal of Contemporary China, China: An International Journal, and PS: Political Science and Politics.
