MONGOLIA LECTURE: REPLACEMENT
NB: The planned lecture “Mongolia lecture: Gendered meanings in Mongolian tea practices by Gaby Bamana” has been delayed due to personal circumstances of the speaker. The lecture will be replaced with:
Mareike Guensche, “Rediscovering Buddhism in Mongolia: transition, restoration and creation”
Mareike Guensche (1979) is a German photographer working in Mongolia for among others Reuters. Ms. Guensche is interested in societies in transition and how people deal with changes.
In this lecture she will present her documentation of the Goethe Institute’s paper-restoration project of Buddhist manuscripts in Gandan Monastery, Ulaanbaatar Mongolia (see image). In addition Ms. Guensche will speak on her ongoing project to document young people chosing a Buddhist vocation in Mongolia.
Mareike Guensche is studying Humanitarian Action (NOHA) at the University of Groningen whilst pursuing her photography projects in Mongolia. For her work also see: www.mareike-guensche.com
