Sociology and Society

https://www.breuerintraval.nl/The Sociology Department of the University of Groningen aims at scientific research that has societal significance as well. Researchers are often inspired by current societal problems, such as ethnic segregation in schools en neighbourhoods, anti-social behavior of youth, or consequences of an aging society.

Research findings and insights about societal questions often find their way back to society, e.g. in policy research or in scientific-based interventions. An example here is the training for elderly people, aimed at keeping control on their own life.

The interaction between Sociology and society is facilitated by Socioquest: a bureau hosted by the Department of Sociology and aimed at research, advice and implementation of knowledge in the social practice.
