Cultural Translation in Early Modern Antwerp

This international networking project is intended to advance our understanding of the ways in which symbolic value and material wealth were produced and circulated in the city of Antwerp between about 1500 and 1650. It will take place between 2012 and 2014 and will involve two workshops and an English language volume of the NKJ,  the Netherlands Yearbook for History of Art , containing the papers conceptualized, drafted and finalized in the course of the project.

The venture is a co-operation between the Department of Dutch, University of Groningen, the Courtauld Institute of Art, University of London, and the Institute of Art History, University of Bern.

The venture is led by Bart Ramakers, Joanna Woodall and Christine Göttler, who will convene the workshops and be the editors of the NKJ volume.

The project is funded by the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research NWO.
