Visiting Staff

The Faculty of Theology and Religious Studies welcomes visiting staff from other universities to spend a period for research, teaching or joint projects with faculty staff. We want visiting staff to feel part of the faculty community, and expect them to contribute to academic life, for example by giving a lecture or colloquium, or by working on a joint publication or project. We can offer a place to work and general facilities such as access to the University Library.

The following conditions apply:

  1. The applicant’s research focus should fit in with the faculty’s research areas.
  2. The applicant must be known to at least one member of the academic staff who will act as host during the applicant’s stay
  3. Acceptance of applications is subject to capacity
  4. Unless other arrangements were made, the applicant is responsible for his/her own funding and housing.

To apply, use the application form and send this with a passport photo to internationaloffice.thrs@rug.nl .

Young researchers (PhD’s)

The Faculty is keenly aware of the importance of supporting starting researchers in their search for funding. Young PhD’s who have recently finished their thesis and are preparing a major research grant proposal are invited to spend a short period of up to two weeks at the faculty and receive academic and strategic advice from specialists in the field. The faculty can offer a place to work and access to general university facilities such as the University Library.

Dutch research funds are listed on the NWO-website.

The following conditions apply:

  1. The applicant’s research focus should fit in with the faculty’s research areas.
  2. The applicant has already prepared a research proposal or an outline. He or she can clearly indicate what advice is necessary to finalise the research proposal.
  3. The applicant must be known to at least one member of the academic staff who will act as host and main academic adviser during the applicant’s stay.
  4. The applicant obtained his/her PhD degree recently (3 to 6 months earlier) and is not employed by another university
  5. Applicants from partner universities of the faculty receive preferential treatment.
  6. Acceptance of applications is subject to capacity
  7. Unless other arrangements were made, the applicant is responsible for his/her own funding and housing. The faculty can provide limited financial assistance such as refund of travel costs.

To apply, send the application form, a passport photo and a brief description of the research proposal and the kind of advice and support that is sought, to internationaloffice.thrs@rug.nl .
