Law has been taught at the University of Groningen since its foundation in 1614. Legal education in Groningen is known as solid and of high quality. It is, in its content and method, attuned to the fact that the law is changing rapidly and lawyers have to work in an increasingly international environment.
The Faculty provides an active learning environment in which the necessary skills of legal problem solving, legal research, effective legal writing and oral advocacy can be exercised and acquired. In the first two years in many of the courses, part of the teaching is carried out in small groups (25 students). In the third year students have to participate in the Moot Court. In the fourth and last year, students take part in a seminar in legal research. For information about our course programmes please contact the International Office For general questions about the faculty see 'general addresses'
