International Exchange Students

Exchange students who participate in an international exchange program are usually required to remain registered and pay tuition at their home university. The host university does not charge any extra fees.
The best known exchange programme is the Socrates/Erasmus Programme of the European Union. The Groningen Psychology Department has signed quite a few agreements with several universities abroad. You should inquire at your own university to find out if an agreement with the University of Groningen exists. If so, please contact the exchange program co-ordinator or Study Abroad Office at your home university to ask for information about the application procedure.

The psychology department offers a minor Psychology in Society that is very well suited for international students who want to spend one semester in Groningen (September to February). Please find more information in the Exchange guide for Psychology through the PDF download to the right.

Freemovers

Foreign students from universities with which the University of Groningen has not signed any exchange program agreement are still welcome to attend some courses provided they pay the due tuition fee. This is also an option for graduate students who are not enrolled at a university any more, but are interested in taking several psychology courses. Many activities at the Psychology Department of the University of Groningen are open to international students but there are some obvious limitations. Some of them, such as interview, counselling and therapy require a high level of skill in the Dutch language and are therefore only suitable for students have such proficiency. Other activities can be carried out only on a full-time basis and therefore require an extended period of stay. Students wishing to undertake these activities should contact the person in charge before applying for a grant. The e-mail addresses of the co-ordinators responsible for each specialised programme are listed below.
