Modern Immigration PolicyA new immigration system called MoMi will be in use in the Netherlands from some time in 2011 onwards. At this moment it has not yet been decided when this new system will be introduced exactly. This new system enables foreigners from Country Group III and IV who wish to travel into the Netherlands with a purpose of study or employment at the University of Groningen to apply for both an MVV and residence permit at the same time. This means that students or employees will not have to apply for a residence permit upon arrival in the Netherlands. Rather, they will be able to pick up their residence permit card almost immediately after arrival at the IND Front-Office in Zwolle. Moreover, their residence permit card will be valid for the entire intended duration of their stay. This is called the TEV procedure. Note: Sometimes the University of Groningen organises a special day in which representatives from the IND come to Groningen to hand out residence permit cards to students. If this is the case for you, the ISD will inform you of this explicitly by email.
Required documents for citizens from Country Group III and IVProspective students or employees from these countries will be informed by e-mail by either the ISD or their faculty’s international office or human resource department concerning the documents that are required for their MVV and residence permit application, among which:
NOTE: International guests who need an MVV but arrive in the Netherlands without one can expect serious problems.
Information for citizens from Country Group IIProspective students or employees from [Country Group II] do not need to apply for an entry-visa, as their nationality allows them to enter the Netherlands and stay here for a period of 90 days. The MoMi system enables these students or employees to apply for their residence permit before travelling to the Netherlands. Moreover, their residence permit card will be valid for the entire intended duration of their stay. This is called the REF procedure. Students and employees will be informed by e-mail by either the ISD or their faculty’s international office or human resource department concerning the documents that are required for their residence permit application, among which:
