The Hortus in Haren, just a short cycle ride south of the city of Groningen, is a botanical garden whose origins date back to 1626. The gardens, more than 21 hectares in all, include, among other things, an authentic copy of a Chinese Feng Shui garden from the Ming dynasty. The garden, owned by the University, is continually involved with the preservation of rare plants. It has always drawn visitors looking for an ideal morning or afternoon out.
