Welcome International Researchers & Employees (WIRE)

WIRE

WIRE, under the auspices of the Rector Magnificus of the University of Groningen, was established to provide help and information, and to organize social gatherings for visiting scholars and other foreigners who come to work at the University. Although we did call ourselves a club, there are no formal membership policies. The former Foreign Guests Club (FGC) changed its name to WIRE (Welcome International Researchers & Employees). All international researchers and employees, working at the University and their families are welcome at all activities.

What we offer

Events

The events cover a wide range of activities, such as guided tours, bowling evenings, Christmas dinner, and day trips to interesting places in the north. These offer you a chance to find out about different facets of life in the Netherlands and an opportunity to meet other foreigners and Dutch co-workers from the University. Invitations are sent via the newsletter.

Newsletter

From the beginning of the academic year in September WIRE sends out a newsletter each month with an invitation to a social event. If you want to sign up for the monthly invitation, please send an email to wire@rug.nl .

Help

Whether your stay is for a short or long period, there are bound to be questions arising from setting-up a household in a foreign country. If you have trouble finding the information you need, you can contact Ina Hofstee, International Staff Advisor, at staff@rug.nl .
