Former Rector Magnificus Anthonie Wattel passed away
On 25 February, former Rector Magnificus Prof. Anthonie Wattel died at the age of 86. In 1953 he was the first graduate of the brand-new Faculty of Economic Sciences, in Business Economics. In 1962 he gained his PhD with a thesis entitled Vorming van de leidinggevende arbeid in de onderneming [Management Training in Business]. His supervisor was Prof. Louis Mey. Between 1966 and 1980, Wattel was Professor of Business Economics at the Faculty of Economic Sciences. He served as Rector Magnificus of our University between 1971 and 1975 and worked hard to establish the new Faculty of Management and Organization, which became fully operational in 1982. In 1980 he became President of the Executive Board of Utrecht University .
