18 February 2014

The Master’s degree in Nanoscience of the University of Groningen is the best university Master’s degree programme, according to the new Keuzegids Masters 2014 [Higher Education Guide 2014 – Master’s programmes]. In the new edition of the Guide, a total of six degree programmes at the University of Groningen have been marked ‘top programmes’.

Nanoscience was awarded the highest marks of all the Master’s programmes (98 out of 100). According to the Guide, Nanoscience was the best university Master’s programme in the Netherlands last year as well. The Guide briefly describes about 1250 Dutch Master’s programmes. Most of them also receive a quality qualification, based on student assessments and the assessment of the NVAO, an accreditation organization. In general, small-scale intensive degree programmes turn out to be the best.

Six top programmes

The Guide includes descriptions of about 1250 Higher Education Master’s programmes officially registered in the Netherlands. A quality assessment is given for 730 of these programmes.

Some programmes are so good that the editors have marked them as ‘top programmes’. Six of the 59 University of Groningen Master’s programmes can call themselves top programmes: Nanoscience, Population Studies, Medical and Pharmaceutical Drug Innovation, and the Research Master’s degree programmes in Economics and Business, Behavioural and Social Sciences and Behavioural and Cognitive Neurosciences.

Five first places

Five University of Groningen programmes were not marked as top programmes but did come first in their category. They are Sociology, Medicine, Pharmacy, Human Movement Sciences and the training programme for teachers of modern languages.
